As an instructor, I frequently hear from students who are unsure of what to do after graduating from herbal school, as well as from individuals interested in herbalism but unsure of where to begin. What’s even more concerning is that after spending thousands of dollars on herbal education—either to enroll in a program or complete one—many come away without clarity on their next steps.

This situation occurs far too often, prompting me to wonder: Why is this happening? Is it acceptable?

To me, the clear answer is NO! With the rising costs of education and living expenses, herbal schooling is becoming increasingly expensive. While there are more affordable programs available, they also face financial challenges to remain operational. If you choose to attend an herbal program or consider self-paced learning, it's crucial to understand what you're getting into and to have a clear vision and intention for your path as an herbalist.

This realization is what inspired me to create The Herbalist Journey Mentorship Circle.

You might ask, "What's the big deal?" and "Why can’t I just figure it out over time?" The reason is simple: the art, craft, and science of herbalism is more than just a passing interest—it's a calling.

Historically, long before herb schools and formal programs existed, being an herbalist was considered a calling. In Black North American Herbalism, for example, individuals perceived this role as a divine calling. Typically, those called displayed natural tendencies and abilities that affirmed their path. They often had an innate connection to plants or a deep understanding of how to use plant medicine to heal. Once the community recognized these traits, the individual would begin their training or apprenticeship under an elder, a process that closely mirrors my own journey as an herbalist.

When I decided to attend herb school, I already sensed that this was my path, due in part to the "calling" I felt in 2016 and the legacy of my grandmother, who was my first herbal teacher.

Fast forward to today: after teaching numerous classes in various herbal programs, I often find students uncertain about why they are in herb school and what they envision for their future in this field. The good news is that I’ve created a program to help address this!

THE HERBALIST JOURNEY MENTORSHIP CIRCLE is designed to help you chart your path, clarify your curiosity, and answer your initial questions about herbalism. This three-month program will provide valuable resources, practical "how-to's," and real-world scenarios to help you clarify your aspirations in herbalism, whether you’re just starting or have recently completed an herbal program.

Throughout the three months, I will guide you and connect you with a community of peers, meeting twice a month to uncover your "why," explore the herbal landscape, and share some trade secrets. By the end of the program, you'll have a clearer vision of where you want to go and how to get there.

As an herbal trainer and instructor, I've taught at various herbal programs and intensives throughout the Bay Area, including Land of Verse, the Berkeley Herbal Center, the California School of Herbal Studies, and the Northern California Women’s Herbal Symposium. I’ve also been honored as both a "Community Leader" and a "Cultivator of Celebration" for my efforts in preserving and promoting Black North American Herbalism.

I am deeply committed to empowering herbalists as they pave the way for a healthier world. By shifting away from symptom-based management to a holistic approach using plant medicine, we can transform the way we view wellness and cultivate a clearer understanding of our potential and purpose. Together, we can create lasting change that prioritizes true healing and wellbeing.
